With the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the technological landscape in the agricultural sector is changing both domestically and internationally. In particular, agricultural production technologies that integrate information and communication technology (ICT) and artificial intelligence (AI) are drawing significant attentions, with smart farms at the center of this shift. To establish a stable and efficient system for domestic agricultural production and secure global competitiveness, systematic smart farm R&D at the national level is crucial.

At this moment, this project was established as an integrated multi-ministerial R&D project initiated by Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Science and ICT, and Rural Development Administration. To realize K-Farm, a globally competitive, cutting-edge convergence technology-based system. We will develop and industrialize converged core and original technologies, foster a sustainable agr-livestock industry, and enhanced industrial competitiveness in the smart farm sector.

Smart farm technology must be clearly divided into domestically-adapted technologies focused on convenience and appropriateness, and core original technologies with global competitiveness. In other words, successful market entry and commercialization require a clear differentiation among general-purpose domestic technologies, climate- or region-specific solutions (e.g., Korea’s four seasons or export-targeted regions), and world-class original technologies. Furthermore, an integrated smart farm platform is necessary to systematically accumulate R&D results and facilitates the activation of the technology-industrialization ecosystem.

By establishing the K-Farm models based on this integrated smart farm platform, we will systematize domestic agriculture, secure global competitiveness, and play a leading role in the development and industrialization of smart farm technologies both domestically and internationally.
